Health residency programs in a university hospital: a potent training setting for interprofessional collaborative practice

Abstract The aim of this study was to explore residents’ experiences interprofessional collaborative practice (ICP) in a university hospital (UH) São Paulo. We conducted qualitative with 14 residents undertaking uniprofessional and multiprofessional residency programs. data were collected using critical incident technique-based semi-structured interviews analyzed thematic analysis as proposed by Bardin. UH shown be potent training setting for ICP, promoting interactions between professionals from range areas varying levels qualification. quality workers, patients their families determining factor the development ICP. Barriers ICP included lack organizational structure, excessive workload, weaknesses provision permanent predominance biomedical model health care. Collaborative actions mediated informal communication most common mechanism used providing shared consultations.
